Imphal, 12 March 2017 : The results of  60 seat Manipur assembly have been declared. The counting for Kakching seat is in progress. Till now congress has won 28 seats, BJP 21, NPP 4, NPF 4, LJP 1, AITC 1 and independent 1. Chief minister Okram Ibobi and deputy chief minister Gaikhangam are among the prominent winners. Ibobi and Gaikhangam retained their Thoubal and Nungba seats respectively. This is the fourth consecutive win for both the congress heavyweights. Speaker Th. Lokeshwar also retained his Khundrakpam seat. Ministers Govindas Konthoujam,  AK Mirabai, Ksh, Biren, D. Korungthang and Md Abdul Nasir also retained their seats. BJP heavyweights Th. Chaoba in Nambol, Y. Irabot in Wangkhei and Okram Joy in Langthabal lost to Congress candidates.

Prominent losers of the congress party include former minister Th. Debendra, ministers M. Okendro, Dr Kh. Ratankumar, T. Manga Vaiphei and I. Hemochandra. Th. Debendra lost his Jiribam seat to an independent candidate while Okendro, Ratankumar and Hemochandra lost to BJP candidates. Former Deputy speaker Preshow Shimray lost his Chingai seat.  The 15 MLAs and Congress Candidates who lost the election are Dr. Ng. Bijoy, Md. Amin Shah, Karam Thamarjit, L. Nandakumar, Laisom Ibomcha, E. Chand, Kh. Devendro, K. Sharat, R.K. Anand, Dr I. Ibohalbi, E. Dwijamani, M. Prithiviraj, T. Mangibabu, Victor Keishing and Jangamlung Panmei.

Imphal, 10 March 2017 ( Evening News ) : Staffs of one of the biggest hospitals in Manipur ,RIMS have launched cease work strike including OPD and the Emergency Service. The agitation was launched today for not appointing a full-time Director or  a Director in Charge. The staffs including the doctors today staged a sit in protest in front of the OPD as part of the strike. As there was no full time Director, Professor, Dr. Ch. Arunkumar had been holding the post of director in charge which ended last month on Feb 28.It is said although the doctors and the staffs have submitted a memorandum to appoint for the vacant post to the Health Ministry, no response has been received. Patients who had come to OPD went back disappointed.And as  Emergency service was also ceased, the patients are sitting in front of the ward.

Imphal, 09 March 2017 ( Evening News ) : At least 8 persons were injured in clashes between Congress and BJP workers at 7/41, 7/42, 7/43 and 7/44  polling stations in Andro today. The incident occurred when Congress workers allegedly assaulted 8 BJP Workers who were visiting the polling station near Itham Moirangpurel this morning around 8. The injured are identified as Nahakpam Radhabinod (32), son of N. Ibomcha from Yaripok Yambem Mayai Leikai, Thokchom Ningthem (43) son of late Thokchom Heiyai Yaripok from Yambem Mathak Leikai, Puthem Nandalala (30) son of P. Tombungjao from Andro Makha Leikai, Sanabam Noren (25) and Kiran (30), both sons of S. Pungou from Yaripok Yambem Makha Leikai, Khumanthem Inao (43) son Kh. Mukta from the same locality, Md. Abothem (27) son of Khabjali from Yaripok Changamdabi and Nahakpam Rakesh son of N. Tomba from Yairipok Mathak Leikai. All of them sustained injuries in the face, legs and hands. 6 of them have been admitted at JNIMS Hospital. Sources said Rakesh and Abothem are missing. One of the injured Thokchom Ningthem said they were assaulted by about 10 congress workers after taking them to the hills. He said they were attacked with sticks and catapults. They were taken to the hospital by a police team which happened to arrive at the spot.

Imphal, 09 March 2017 ( Evening News ) : At least 8 persons including 3 women were injured in a blast that occurred yesterday evening near the Kasturi bridge in Thangal bazar. The blast occurred in front of Deva Pharmacy near Kasturi bridge around 5.40 pm. 5 of the injured were rushed at the Rims Hospital while the other three are admitted at different hospitals in Imphal. 5 non-Manipuris were among the injured.

Imphal, 07 March 2017 ( Evening News ): Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, North East Industrial Scientific Technology, Lamphelpat will develop green campus at 5 Schools in Manipur. The Green Project sponsored by GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has chosen Wangkhei High School and CC Higher Secondary School in Imphal East and Kendriya Vidyalaya Lamphelpat, Assam Rifles Public School, and Praja High School Lamshang in Imphal West District in the first phase. Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, (CSIR)  and North East Industrial Scientific Technology (NEIST) Lamphelpat today held an awareness program on development of Green Campus in schools of Manipur at its office. Speaking at the program, consultant, govt of Manipur Dr RK Nimai described the green project for the school campus under the supervision of CSIR North East Industrial Scientific Technology as a significant move. He said it will not only make the students aware of the environment but also help in protecting and preserving the environment. He said the students should be taught the importance of plants in the maintenance of the environment. Dr Nimai also stressed the need to give scientific knowledge about the plant the students are planting.
