LATE CM RISHANG KEISHING FONDLY REMEMBERED
Late Manipur CM Rishang Keishing fondly remembered on his 4th Death Anniversary; MPCC paid rich tributes to the late eminent Congress leader
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) members and people fondly remembered four-time former Chief Minister of Manipur and former Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing on his 4th death anniversary today. Late Rishang Keishing, a Tangkhul Naga, served as the Chief Minister of Manipur from 1980 to 1988 and from 1994 to 1997. He passed away on August 22, 2017 at the age of 96 due to multiple organ failures.
MPCC Interim President N. Lokendra, Congress Legislature Party, CLP Leader cum Former Chief Minister - Okram Ibobi and All India Congress Committee (AICC) CWC Member Gaikhangam led people in paying floral tributes to the late leader's grave at Mantripukhri this morning. Later, Congress MLAs and Party members held the 4th Memorial Lectures in memory of the late leader at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal. Speaking at the event, Ex-Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi recalled that Rishang Keishing was elected to the Lok Sabha in the first Parliamentary elections held in 1952 after India's Independence. He eulogized the late Chief Minister for his contributions in developing the State and the country.
Remembering the eminent congress leader from Bungpa Village in Ukhrul District, Okram Ibobi called upon people of the state to follow the ideologies of late Rishang Keishing for sustaining the unity and integrity of Manipur. It maybe mentioned that the NSCN-IM reportedly denied the late Chief Minister's burial in his native village. The leader’s last rites were performed in Imphal on August 24, 2017.
SHEILEJA MAIBAM WINS BEAUTY CROWN ONCE AGAIN
"Age is just a number. Keep your dreams alive!" These inspiring words come from Mrs. Sheileja Maibam from Manipur, a mother of three who has recently bagged the Classic Mrs. India Karnataka First Runner Up Title along with Mrs. Best Hair Sub-Title. Mrs Pratibha Saunshimath organised the largest pageant for married women with growth to national and premium international pageants at Bangalore in Karnataka on August 11.
Upon winning the titles, Mrs. Sheileja Maibam gave credits for her achievement to her three children for always believing in her. She also thanked her Father-in- law Maisnam Ibohal and her parents Maibam Ibomcha and Maibam ongbi Radhesana for always supporting her every endeavours. She made a special mention about her friends Inderjeet Kaur and Rohi Kaur for inspiring her to participate in the prestigious contest.
Sheileja fondly remembers her late Grandmother Hourungbam Nupimacha Devi for giving her tips and care in maintaining her hair since her early days. She also expressed gratitude to Irengbam Angabala for helping her with the Manipuri Potloi which she wore for the ethnic round of the pageant and won the hearts of many.
It may be mentioned that Sheilija was crowned Miss Manipur 1997, Miss Kut 1995, Miss Phouoibi 1995 and Miss Beautiful Hair at Miss North East 1995. She will now represent Manipur in the upcoming Mrs India contest next year.
LA GANESAN APPOINTED AS MANIPUR GUV
La Ganesan appointed as Manipur Governor after Ex-Governor Dr Najma Heptulla's retirement from the post
President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday appointed BJP leader La Ganesan as the Governor of Manipur with effect from the day he assumes charge of the office. He will be the 17th Governor of Manipur.
La Ganesan has served as Rajya Sabha member and BJP in several capacities. He has served as General Secretary of Tamil Nadu BJP unit and prior to that he was Pracharak in RSS. Ganesan had also replaced Dr. Najma Heptulla as Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh.
Dr Najma A Heptulla was sworn in as the governor of Manipur in August, 2016 and retired on August 20, 2021. It maybe mentioned that Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad Chaurasia took additional charge as Governor of Manipur during Heptulla's absence.
