Continuing war against drugs, a joint team of personnel of Imphal East District Police, Narcotic Cell and volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association Khergao has arrested a man with various contraband tablets from Porompat Thawan Thaba Leikai during an anti-drug drive.

Arrested man is 45-year-old, Md.Fajuruddin, Son of late Md. Rafe Uddin from Kshetri Awang Leikai, Litan Bridge. Police has recovered 743 SP capsules and 88 N-10 tablets from him. The combined team led by Imphal East Narcotic Cell OC Inspector Kh.Devkumar has carried out the anti-drug drive under Imphal East District Police SP N. Herojit's supervision.

Speaking to media today, OC Inspector Kh.Devkumar has warned against sale and abuse of drugs. Police said, arrested Md.Fajuruddin has disclosed the names of other drug dealers and necessary actions are underway.

MLA of Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency, Dr. Y. Radheshyam has expressed concerns over the rising coronavirus infection rate in Manipur, despite the steady decrease in the country. He said, the spike in covid-positivity rate in the state is because of not following Covid Appropriate Behaviour strictly and failure in getting inoculated against COVID-19.   

MLA Dr.Y. Radheshyam was speaking on the sidelines of inspecting the Mass covid vaccination drive, organised by Covid Task Force Hiyanglam, Hiyanglam PHC and local clubs of Hiyanglam Terapisak namely ABC and YDC at YDC Ground today. The drive aimed to vaccinate around 500 locals. The MLA appealed to all the eligible beneficiaries to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible to prevent the possible third wave of coronavirus pandemic in the state. He also reminded that the Union Health Ministry has already approved covid vaccination of pregnant and lactating women as safe.

It maybe mentioned that Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren has recently announced to reward Rs.20 lakhs to the first fully vaccionated Assembly Constituency in the state. Covid vaccination has been intensified since then across the state and vaccination rate is also rising. As of July 2nd, a total of 7 lakh, 5 thousand, 693 people have received COVID-19 Vaccine in Manipur, out of which 85 Thousand 275 people have received the second dose.

Government targets to innoculate at least 75 per cent of the entire eligible population in the State by the end of this year.

Trial run of the first ever passenger train from Silchar Railway Station in Assam to Vaingaichunpao Railway Station in Manipur's Tamenglong district was conducted successfully on Friday. The train, a Rajdhani Express, accompanied by Railway officials reached Jiribam from Silchar around 11 AM. It stopped briefly at Jiribam railway station where the railway officials along with locals honoured the train, hoisted the national tricoloured flag and sang the National Anthem. The train then moved towards Vangaichungpao station in Tamenglong district, which is about 11 Kilometres away from the Jiribam town.

According to senior PRO of Northeast Frontier Railway Nripen Bhattacharya, formal inauguration of the passenger train service between Silchar and Vangaichungpao will be done by the Union Railway Minister soon and that the train service will benefit people of Manipur in connecting with other states of the country. He also said that construction for Vangaichungpao-Imphal rail line is going on full swing, mainly the tunnelling. He added that hectic works are on to complete the longest tunnel near the Imphal City as soon as possible.

Nripen Bhattacharya said, the railways would take necessary steps with regards to the project only in consultation with the higher authority based on steps initiated by Manipur government.
